Really Sexist Job Titles

Gender equality. True, we’ve made great strides in recent years, but equality is far from achieved yet. We still have a lot of work to do for women, and specifically, women in the workforce. Women are paid less money to do the same job as men, and worse, they are often automatically labeled as “women” within their very job titles. In honor of Women's Equality day, let's examine a few of these recognizable job titles and see if you can spot the sexism ingrained in our workplace vocabulary.

"Female Actress"

The fact that we call female actresses “female actresses” is a case in point--we have a lot of work to do. We don’t call male actresses “male actresses!” We just call them "actresses."

"Female Nun"

Devoting your life to the Lord Our God should NOT have anything to do with your gender. I know it might sound weird to just say “nun,” but it’s something we should really get used to.

"Female Mom"

Calling someone a “female mom” is absolutely ridiculous for obvious reasons. Those reasons being that male moms are almost never called male moms.

"Female Egg Donor"

The “female” before egg donor is so unnecessary--everyone knows that in this day and age women can donate their eggs, too!

"Female Queen"

“God Save the Female Queen” might be the British national anthem….but *should* it be?

"Female Real Housewife"

It’s 2015. Really?!

"Female Witch"

Surely there are some people who would just like to cast a revenge spell on an ex-lover without being bluntly reminded that they were born with a vagina. I mean, daemon irrepit callidus, am I right??

Eye opening stuff. Clearly in order for us to progress, we need to drop the labels based in stereotype and move forward as equals. #YesAllFemaleWomen
