Comedy pop quiz time:
Which of these iconic SNL characters were born on a Second City stage?
A) Rachel Dratch's "Denise" of “Sully & Denise”
B) Chris Farley's "Matt Foley"
C) Bill Murray's "Nick the Lounge Singer"
D) Mike Myers' "Wayne Campbell"
Well, la-di-frickin-da..they all were.
The Second City’s deep ties with Saturday Night Live go all the way back to the show’s 1975 premiere and original cast members Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. Over the last 43 seasons, a myriad of Second City alums have also made their way to SNL, and now, thanks to SNL: The Experience at Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications, you can feel like you’re actually inside Studio 8H, too.
The 12,000-square-foot multimedia experience takes you through the six days of putting the show together, from Monday meetings right through Saturday night. Along the way, you’ll get up close and personal with TV history, including several original props, costumes and sets with a uniquely Chicago connection: John Belushi’s Killer Bees costume, Gilda Radner’s shoes, and even your “host” for the experience’s culmination, Tina Fey.
Stick your head inside the Land Shark's jaws. Play guitar on the actual Wayne's World set. Deliver the headlines from behind an exact replica of the Weekend Update desk.
It's authentic. It's immersive. It's a can't-miss experience for fans from every generation.
SNL: The Experience is now open at Chicago's Museum of Broadcast Communications, which we'd like you to note is fittingly a museum down the by the river.
